Lee Evans’s classic, soulful surf documentary, filmed in 2002, is making a rare visit back to the big screen. And where more appropriate than Newquay? Filmed entirely in Cornwall, edited from over 1,000 hours of footage, Land of Saints is “a two-year journey wandering coastlines, documenting the surfing lives of Cornwall’s native and visiting souls.” It captures the essence of surfing in Britain and features many of the top UK surfers showing how it’s done “Cornish-style,” with picture-postcard scenery and a palpable sense of nature. Buy your tickets early, we expect this screening to sell out.

*We are delighted to welcome filmmaker Lee Evans, who will present a Q&A following the screening.

Surf Documentaries: For Better, For Worse + Somewhere Near Tapachula

For Better, For Worse

 Fri | 4 Nov | 19.30 | Screen 4 | 34min and 33min + Q&A | Book Tickets

For Better, For Worse is a new film by filmmaker Romain Juchereau, who splits his time between France and Cornwall, which explores the lives and surf obsessions of three couples who gave it all up for the surf life.

Somewhere Near Tapachula, directed by Stefan Hunt and Jonno Durrant from SURFING 50 STATES,  is an inspiring story of love, life and hope. Set in Tapachula, Mexico, this documentray follows the stories of 54 children, survivors of poverty, trauma and abuse, and their journey to Mision Mexico, a children's refuge founded by Australian couple Pam and Alan Skuse.

It also focuses on the unique surf community that they have pioneered in Tapachula, a coastal city with no other wave riders. The surfing experience has had a phenomenal impact on the children, providing an escape from their unimaginable pasts.

*We are pleased to welcome Deborah Grossman, the Fundraising and Sponsorship Manager for Mision Mexico, who will present a short talk and Q&A after the screening.
