Frequently Asked Questions - Festival Technical Issues

Your still can be de-interlaced using a graphics programme ie Photoshop. On the tool bar select filters, then video, then de-interlace.

It would be preferable if all still submitted to the festival were 300dpi production stills, but if you only have a still 'grabbed'from video the resolution will be 720 x 576 @ 72 dpi which is acceptable - provided you call to let the office know before submission. Please deinterlace the file if necessary before sending it in.

If your film is on another format such as Betacam, digi beta film, we will need to get a copy on DV. If you have no way of doing this, you will be able to find companies who can help you by looking on these websites: www.flickernow.org and www.cornwallmediafocus.co.uk

It is a simple process to take a still from Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or i-Movie; you will find clear instructions in the HELP MENU in your software package. You may need to de-interlace the picture (if it has horizontal lines throughout) which you can do using the de-interlace filter in adobe photoshop.

We are looking for a brochure image, which may be printed quite small, and will almost certainly be black and white so choose a strong image, ideally a CU (Close Up)

The DVD you send us will be used at the festival at our video-theque for attendees to view, so it needs to be playable on a domestic DVD player.
